Ozone is a gaseous molecule consisting of pure oxygen that stimulates the body’s natural healing processes. Ozone gas may be injected into soft tissues, boney cavities, infected tissues, ligaments, and joints.  It may be instilled into body cavities such as the bladder, rectum, vagina and into the ears.  It may be applied topically to the skin and to wounds.  It may be used to treat vegetable oils or water which are then ingested or applied topically.  It may be admixed with blood and re-infused intramuscularly, subcutaneously, or intravenously.  It may be directly infused intravenously.  It may be aerosolized with water and inhaled.  It may be used to treat normal saline which is then used intravenously, topically, or orally.

Ozone is often effective in conditions such as chronic and acute infections, pain, weakness, immune dysfunction, and auto-immune diseases in which other therapies including conventional therapies are not effective.  Ozone has the additional benefit of being free of any serious side effects or complications.  There are over 2000 published papers on the medical use of ozone therapy that have been assembled by The International Scientific Committee on Ozone Therapy that are available online at (http://zotero.org/groups/isco3_ozone).

However, while ozone is approved and routinely used in many countries it is considered experimental in many others including the United States.  It is also not approved by the World Health Organization for any disease. However, ozone has a 50 year long track record of safety and efficacy. Ozone is not recommended by the American Medical Association (“AMA”).

Dr. Frank Shallenberger is an MD who practices in Nevada. You can find a lot of information in his book “The Principles and Applications of Ozone Therapy – A Guideline For Physicians” complete with references, to understand about safety, application and efficacy. He also founded the American Academy for Ozone Therapy here in the states.
